"I have been a customer of Oddball Customs for about 7 years now. Cleveland is my go to guy for all my car repair needs! He is helpful, honest, affordable and dependable. As a woman who knows very little about car mechanics, I have always felt vulnerable taking my vehicle into places for repair, not knowing if they would take advantage of me. Cleveland displays integrity not only in his work, but with his customer relationships as well."

"Cleveland of "Oddball Kustom Garage" is a very knowledgeable and experienced individual. A few years back I purchased a 1997 Eclipse GSX without knowing what I was in for. The car had a spun wheel bearing, a blown turbo, and a transmission that was on the way out. This car was a nightmare but Cleveland took initiative on my project and gave honest work. He charged a lot less than most places and would go out of his way to make sure every kink would be worked out. Needless to say, it did not end there. For certain unforeseeable issues (to which he could not fix) he would help with storage and transport of my car between locations. Cleveland does not beat around the bush or cut corners. He will directly tell you exactly what you need and when you need it. There are very few mechanic shops with such respect and integrity. That is why I will continue to bring my vehicles to Oddball Kustoms for service."

"I can’t say enough good things about Cleveland and the work his shop does. I drive (daily) a 79 CJ so it’s had its share of quirks. I don’t know a lot about cars and he’s always been quick to explain the issue as well as my options for getting it back on the road. I honestly feel like they treat my Jeep as if it was their own. I think I’m close to finished with the mechanical stuff and couldn’t imagine taking it to anybody else when it’s time for the cosmetic stuff. Good work. Fair prices. Highly recommended."

"Cleveland has been a friend of mine for many years so when I ran into transmission issues with my Nissan Rogue a few months ago, I knew his shop was just the place to take it! He assessed the damages and went over all of my options in detail. Ultimately we decided not to move forward with the repairs because the car was too far gone. He even handled my cars removal which gave me some money for a down payment! I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to him. He runs a fair and honest business that you wont be disappointed in!"

"We purchased our vehicle, a Chrysler Pacifica, a few years back. We told Cleveland what we were wanting, a car that can fit 6 people, and is good on gas. He got us an excellent deal, for a very good price! We even received our title in the mail shortly after purchasing the vehicle. It is an awesome car, it runs great, the A/C works wonderfully, the seats are leather! (which is great, because I have 4 kids) He worked with us, and made sure to contact us about our car; and when it would be ready. He was professional and patient the whole time as well."

"Cleveland has been my go-to guy for years for anything related to vehicle repair. He does professional quality work that is always much cheaper than dealer. There isn’t much he hasn’t seen, given his lifetime of experience. My car: 2015 Mazda CX-5."

"Cleveland has saved my day and my money a few times already but today he really gained my loyalty. My car wouldn’t start this morning. After several tries I finally got it going and drove it to the nearest mechanic hoping they could at least take a quick look and give me some kind of idea what the problem could be. They told me it would be a 2-3 hour wait before they could even look at my car despite knowing I had my seven year old daughter with me and we would be stranded there the entire time. They had no interest in sharing any knowledge, experience, or even a nugget of advice that might have helped. So I called Cleveland. Although he was also busy, he answered right away and calmly walked me through my issue, troubleshooting, and gave me really simple solid advice about what to do. His advice was spot on and it all worked out just fine by the way. Turns out it was a really simple problem and I was able to take care of it at the auto parts store, but I wouldn’t have known this had he not answered his phone and been so patient with me. So glad I didn’t end up spending three hours on a plastic chair in a cold waiting room with my tired kid this morning! THANK YOU!!!"

“I have personally known this particular mechanic for over a decade now and can therefore attest to his genuineness; his exceptional work ethic; his tried and true experiences and knowledge; his one of a kind business skills; and his history of exceeding expectations and offering affordable services with a personal touch of southern hospitality. In fact, recently I totaled my only vehicle in a near-death accident on one of the busiest five lane highways in central metropolitan San Antonio, hitting two concrete walls head-on and then flipping our five year old minivan which immediately deployed all eight airbags effectively saving me and my daughter’s life and somehow managing to avoid the streaming traffic surrounding us was the single most terrifying experience of my life...until I spoke with our insurance company and learned that we were expected to pay for our next vehicle with our own money... and I’m thinking “what money?” When you’re living paycheck to paycheck with five children (one of whose college expenses take up a good portion of each check), a high mortgage for a quarter million dollar house and then you have an unforeseen accident from which you luckily escape with your life intact only to be faced by a seemingly undoable task of replacing your totaled vehicle, you tend to quickly lose the life altering prospective gained from your experience and you find yourself in a panicky state of uncertainty, followed closely by appending sense of inevitable failure and doom. That’s about the same time I called Cleveland to tell him about my family’s plights. He was not only personally affronted by news of the insurance company’s denial of full coverage, but he was appropriately upset about our near-death accident that had set into motion that devastating sequela in December of last year, slowly through the first couple months of the new year and by then we were looking at another two months of having no transportation because we were about to return the rental car paid for by our reluctant insurance company. Beyond my personal meltdown during my conversation and his response of sympathy, understanding and support, he immediately asked me what he could do to help. I gave him the number of our pathetic budget (which is embarrassing enough to redact publicly from this testimonial), a list of necessities from the short term replacement vehicle that would be necessary to meet the bare minimum balance of our transportation needs until the tax returns would provide a more flexible budget plan (which he also took the information from and making it applicable for his arduous process of finding our next vehicle) and that would hopefully extend us another year or so during which time it would be used intermittently as a second vehicle by our kids. So basically I was asking for an unprecedentedly affordable car that would also offer an additional year of safety for our kids to use it, as well as accommodations for a minimum of five people and no financing cost to be paid monthly. Imagine my surprise when he immediately started sending pictures of vehicles that he already owned, that were posted for sale, affordably priced, with low enough mileage to reasonably expect another few good years of safety and reliability during which time our kids will continue using it to ensure their transportation to and from school. The first 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was in immaculate condition for the age and anticipated wear and tear (which was surprisingly minimal to the interior floor mats that we merely covered with the long lasting Rubbermaid mats) and had cost us less then the embarrassingly limited budget to buy it in full, and within two days of making contact with the owner! It’s going strong right now at 210k miles for my kids while I’m driving a fully owned SUV, with seating for nine, 110k miles under a make/model that is easily expected to last another 100k miles at the rate I drive it.
The process was simple-I merely wired our budget of $5500 directly to the owner who then used his vast networking resources for which he uses to obtain parts, services, and vehicle purchases from across the state-and within a week or so my husband was picking up our one-owner SUV from a local dealership at wholesale cost of $4800 for a blue book value of nearly $8500! He handled all the little mechanical barriers, having another colleague who specialized in repairing vehicular dents and cosmetic damages reduce costs for a few dings and scratches that were quickly used in combination with his own additional parts to essentially make my dream vehicle out of a well maintained, albeit with a slightly beaten down exterior, but considering that his colleague at the dealership handled all the proper paperwork to transfer the title to my husband for this deep blue beauty in the form of a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, it’s a great deal that we otherwise could’ve never obtained ourselves without having the advantage of our own personal car expert and mechanic to negotiate its actual price, plus the additional third row seats and associated repairs to ensure that it looked like a brand new SUV that was now owned in full with minimal maintenance and no overhead costs associated with this purchase! I can honestly say that there was no way we could have afforded such an extraordinary vehicle to own without having a reliable middlemen whose knowledge, networks and experience was necessary for so many mitigating aspects of this vehicle’s purchasing processes. Thanks to Cleveland Shinn’s exceptional independent company that is owned and operated out of Austin, TX, my family has two minimally used vehicles, fully paid off to replace the monthly payments of nearly $400 in financing the totaled vehicle which I can honestly say I am glad we no longer have pay such exorbitant monthly rates to have eventually become the rightful owner.
Beyond that I would recommend this to anyone whose budget is a little tight; whose timeframe is limited; whose knowledge of cars is lacking; whose expectations are higher than their bank account balance; whose credit rating could use some help; whose sick of paying off their current loan for a vehicle (which probably doesn’t have an equivalent life expectancy to that of their loan; or whose maintenance costs and repairs typically exceed their wallet in content and context of costs which govern such unexpected expenses associated with “owning” their own vehicle, and for anyone looking for someone whose independent business allows them to offer their services and expertise, reliability, resourcefulness, affordability, integrity, efficiency, history of satisfaction and loyalty to consumers whose needs are typically viewed as being unable to obtain the accommodation requirements and associated requests. I am a decade long customer of this independent, local business and I am glad to give them my business as well as recommendations for their services to anyone else who’s ever had similar experiences and hardships as first described here! I also recommend to speak personally with the owner, Cleveland Shinn, and tell him that you were referred by one of his many valued clients!”
